Project EAGLeS

English Acquisition in German Learning Disabled Students

The project EAGLeS examines 6th graders’ acquisition of English as a foreign language literacy (reading, spelling, grammar) competencies. We are looking for systematic differences between students with poor native German literacy competencies and their non-afflicted peers.

This study measures 6th graders’ reading, spelling, and grammatic competency in both German and English as a foreign language. Additionally, we consider the students’ logical thinking abilities and their level of motivation for learning English. 

With this data, we can examine whether, or to what extent, literacy difficulties in one’s mother tongue, German, impact English as a foreign language learning in the 6th grade.
